VOLUNTEER

Get involved and make a real difference

DO A
GOOD TURN DAILY

Adult Volunteers are essential to the Scouting program’s success. There are plenty of areas where you can help, without having to go camping or attend weekly meetings (although we need that, too).

AVAILABLE ROLES

Assistant Scoutmasters (ASMs)

Attend the Scout meetings to supervise and guide the Scouts, complete Scoutmaster Conferences to help advancement and attend camping trips.

Committee Members

There are several different Committee roles, including Secretary, Treasurer, Advancement, and Member-at-Large. Meetings are held virtually on the second Wednesday of each month.

Merit Badge Counselors

This is an opportunity to share your knowledge and enthusiasm on a particular topic with Scouts. The Scout is doing most of the work! There may be some discussions and training involved (depending on the topic), most of what you do as a Counselor is oversee and approve the Scout’s work. To get started:

    • Complete the Merit Badge Counselor application (it’s very simple)
    • Complete Scouts BSA Youth Protection Training (YPT) online class
    • There is a $25 fee for Merit Badge Counselors not already registered as an adult leader; if you are registered, that fee is waived. The fee is per person, not per Merit Badge – you can be a Counselor for up to 15 different Merit Badges.
    • Please reach out to Andy Cooke with questions.

Camping support

Can’t make the meetings but want to go on the trips? Fantastic, we need help there too. Share your love of the outdoors – or learn a new love – by attending trips. This is the best opportunity to see the Scouts in action (and some would say the best part of being an adult volunteer).

Court of Honor Coordinators

This team plans and organizes the spring and fall Court of Honor events.

ADULT VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION

As part of our ongoing commitment to abuse prevention, the Boy Scouts of America is updating the adult supervision requirements for overnight activities. This update enhances the minimum “two deep leadership” requirements by additionally requiring every adult present on overnight activities to be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America.

These adults must submit an adult application and registration fee, undergo a criminal
background check, a volunteer screening database check and must complete mandatory Youth
Protection training. BSA Youth Protection and Barriers to Abuse FAQs
