CAMPING

Troop 76B has a camping trip every month, except for August (everyone needs a break!) and December, when the Troop focuses on our annual Christmas Tree Sale fundraiser.

Our youth leadership team selects the trips with guidance from adult leaders.

Typical camping weekend schedule:

  • Departure: Friday evenings around 6:30 p.m.

  • Return: Sunday by 12:00 p.m. (noon)

  • The Troop provides tents, cooking gear, and other shared equipment.

  • Scouts bring their personal gear (sleeping bag, mess kit, clothing, toiletries, etc.).

  • Scouts plan, shop for, and cook their own patrol meals as part of their leadership and teamwork development.

SUMMER CAMP

Troop 76B typically attends Camp Horseshoe during the third week of July each summer, so families can plan ahead!

Summer Camp is often our Scouts’ favorite event of the year. We hold parent meetings as the date approaches, and Scouts receive packing lists and have the chance to ask questions. While attendance is optional, Summer Camp is one of the best opportunities for advancement, merit badges, and fun.

For the latest information and pricing (currently $525 for the week with early bird registration), visit Camp Horseshoe – Chester County Council. This cost includes all food and activities. We carpool to and from camp, and on Wednesday, a Troop parent delivers care packages from home.

"A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room."

A NOTE FROM THE SCOUTMASTER

Summer camp is one of the greatest adventures in Scouting. At Camp Horseshoe, each day brings the chance to explore, try new things, and grow alongside your fellow Scouts. For many, the first year at camp feels like stepping into a whole new world: one full of challenges, excitement, and memories that last a lifetime.

First-year Scouts begin in the Trailblazer program, where they learn the essentials of Scouting and connect with new friends from across camp. But the adventure doesn’t stop there. Each Scout has the chance to choose from a wide variety of merit badge classes, whether it’s swimming, archery, climbing, handicrafts, or outdoor skills. Every activity is a chance to discover something new about yourself.

One of the best parts of camp is the independence you gain as you make your way around Horseshoe. From heading off to classes, to keeping your tent in order, to helping with troop duties, you’ll learn responsibility while also having the freedom to explore. Along the way, you’ll compete in camp-wide games, cheer on your fellow scouts, and join hundreds of other Scouts in traditions that make Horseshoe so special.

By the end of the week, Scouts come home with more confidence, new skills, and stories to tell. You’ll walk a little taller, laugh a little louder, and feel a stronger bond with your Troop. Summer camp is more than just a week away. It’s where adventure, friendship, and Scouting truly come alive!

CAMPERSHIPS

The Chester County Council believes every Scout should have the opportunity to experience the adventure and growth that come from camping. To support this, the Campership Fund was established to assist Scouts who would not be able to attend camp without financial help.

Campership applications are due by April 1 each year and are considered based on demonstrated need. Funding may cover up to 50% of the total camp fee, depending on available resources.

If your family requires additional assistance, please reach out to a Troop 76 leader. We’re here to help.

The Council Campership Application for the 2026 season will be posted here as soon as it becomes available.

NATIONAL HIGH ADVENTURE BASES

The Boy Scouts of America owns four national ‘High Adventure” bases. They are Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia (home of the National Jamboree),  Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Northern Tier in Minnesota, and BSA Sea Base down in the Florida Keys. Each facility offers wilderness programs and training that could include wilderness canoeing, wilderness backpacking trips, or sailing, and provide opportunities for Scouts to earn the 50-Miler Award. Our troop occasionally puts together a group of Scouts and adults to go to one of these trips. They are opportunities of a lifetime.
