CAMPING

Troop 76 has a camping trip every month, except for August (everyone needs a break) and December (Christmas Tree Sale fundraiser).

  • Trips are selected by the Troop’s youth leadership, with guidance from the adult leaders
  • We leave on Friday evenings, usually by 6:30 p.m.
  • We return on Sunday by 12:00 p.m. noon
  • The Troop provides tents, cooking gear and other group items
  • Scouts are responsible for their personal gear (sleeping bag, clothes, etc.)
  • The Scouts plan, shop for and cook their own meals as part of their patrol

SUMMER CAMP

"A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room."

― Sir Robert Baden-Powell (Founder of Scouting)

Lord Robert Baden-Powell

A NOTE FROM
THE SCOUTMASTER

2024 will be my ninth year attending Camp Horseshoe with Troop 76. Every year Scouts and their parents are nervous – will he be OK, will he have fun, will he be scared, will he eat what they serve, will he shower? The answer to these questions is Yes.

Their first year at summer camp is usually both overwhelming and amazing. They spend the week with their fellow 76ers and during “class” time they attend the Trailblazer program, which teaches Scouts the fundamentals of the program and introduces them to other new Scouts their age.

During the week, they’ll learn a new level of independence but with an entire Troop supporting them. They’ll be responsible for helping serve meals to their peers, keeping their camp tents tidy for inspection, having fun running all over camp during the camp wide inter-troop competitions, and seeing just what happens when more than 400 of their fellow Scouts come together in one place.

When they come home, they usually walk a little taller, are a little more responsible and a lot more confident in themselves. Watching (and helping) these young people evolve and grow so much in such a short time is one of my favorite parts of being a Scout leader.

Yours in Scouting,
Tara Brooks

CAMPERSHIPS

The Chester County Council believes that every Scout should have the opportunity to take part in an outdoor experience. The campership fund was established to aid Scouts who, without financial assistance, cannot afford to attend camp.

All applications are considered based on need. Funding is limited to 50% of the total camp fee. If you require additional assistance, please contact a Troop 76 Leader. We will post the Council application for the 2024 season as soon as it’s available.

NATIONAL HIGH ADVENTURE BASES

The Boy Scouts of America owns four national ‘High Adventure” bases. They are Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia (home of the National Jamboree),  Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Northern Tier in Minnesota, and BSA Sea Base down in the Florida Keys. Each facility offers wilderness programs and training that could include wilderness canoeing, wilderness backpacking trips, or sailing, and provide opportunities for Scouts to earn the 50-Miler Award. Our troop occasionally puts together a group of Scouts and adults to go to one of these trips. They are opportunities of a lifetime.
